ADOPT A BLACK BEAR!
 |
Koda - Koda was born January 9, 2004 here in Central
Florida at a facility that is now out of business.
As a baby, he was sold along with his sister to the same
travelling road side exhibit that we got Siren Tiger
from. Bears are very messy and destructive, and by
the age of 10 months, the exhibitor had had enough.
We got the call to come and get both bears, but the
night before another facility with bears the same age
had an accident and lost their female. Desperate
for another bear, they offered the exhibitor $1500 for
the female and money won out. Koda was heartbroken
and we promised him we would find him an appropriate
companion!

Poka - Born in North Carolina on January 15, 2004, Poka came to
Zooville on May 15, 2007. While it took almost 2 years to
keep our promise to Koda, we couldn't have given him a better
companion! Poka was a photo prop bear until the laws
changed and she was no longer needed. She is a very petite
little bear, especially compared to Koda, but is fierce in
stature! She stands up to Koda and always puts him in her
place. Poka and Koda produced two litters of cubs (a total
of 3 boys) but by the time the second litter arrived, Koda had
been castrated to prevent us from producing any more captive
bears. We are not against captive breeding for conservation
purposes, we are just not interested in breeding bears here! |
BEAR ENRICHMENT
Bears love to test things, bite things and eat things! If not kept
busy, bears can be very destructive. They are incredibly
smart and have a sense of smell that exceeds any dog breed!
Just like with the big cats, bear toys need to be very tough and
durable. That makes them very costly. Your
contributions to our adoption programs helps keep our bears in
toys!
Keeping our animals mentally fit is very
important to us. Your support helps us keep these guys not
just physically fit, but mentally fit as well! Whether we
are using different substrates to give different tactile
experiences, or scents for stimulating the olfactory senses, or
things they can tear into like bones, boxes and various toys, we
love to watch the animals respond, react, and rejoice! Your
contributions help us keep their lives enriched!
