ADOPT A SERVAL!

Kamau - Kamau was born in 1999 and came to Zooville on July 4, 2005.  Since his actual date of birth is unknown, we celebrate July 4th as his birthday.  He came from a home where he was well looked after, but the owner had just gotten in over his head, as so many people in this industry do.  Florida Wildlife Conservation Commission asked us to step in and help.  We went to take in 4 animals, and we left with 15, Kamau being one of the 15. He had a large metal pin in his leg from a previous injury, and that was causing him great discomfort due to nerve damage from the plate.  In his first  months here he had a major surgery followed by 8 months in a TINY cage to allow the bone to regrow.  His movement had to be restricted!  Today, he is able to run and jump and swat us with the best of them!
Mopani - Mopani came to us on October 8, 2007 and almost nothing was known about her other than she was 10 years old, spayed, poorly declawed and had been a house pet.  The Florida Wildlife Conservation Commission had just begun Amnesty Days where you could turn in any animal regardless of whether or not you were properly permitted, without legal repercussion.  It was intended for reptile owners to help with the growing problem of released reptiles in Florida.  They never expected a serval.  Mopani was dropped off at the Miami Amnesty Day and she was quickly removed to a licensed facility for holding until a home could be found.  We were called almost immediately to see if we could take her in, as they wanted her to go somewhere that would not exploit where she came from and give in to the media frenzy that surrounded her.

SERVAL ENRICHMENT

Servals love toys, no matter how old they are.  Keeping our animals mentally fit is very important to us.  Your support helps us keep these guys not just physically fit, but mentally fit as well!  Whether we are using different substrates to give different tactile experiences, or scents for stimulating the olfactory senses, or things they can tear into like bones, boxes and various toys, we love to watch the animals respond, react, and rejoice! Your contributions help us keep their lives enriched!
